Key People

Warakirri's Board of Directors is a governing board with a diverse group of directors, each of whom bring many years of experience and expertise in their particular field. The Board's membership is as follows:

Peter Promnitz (Non-executive Chairman)

PeterP
Peter is chairman of the board and was originally appointed as a non-executive director in 2016. He is currently the chairman of Australian Unity Limited and the CareerMoneyLife Advisory Board, while also being a member of the Red Cross Australia Investment Committee. Previously, Peter held the role of CEO for Mercer Australia/NZ from 2004 – 2010 and the role of Regional Head, Mercer Asia Pacific from 2007 – 2012. Peter holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Adelaide and is a Fellow (and Graduate) of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Peter is also an actuary and is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Jim McKay (Managing Director)

Jim was appointed as Managing Director of Warakirri in 2017. Prior to joining Warakirri, he was most recently Head of Distribution for Franklin Templeton Investments, Managing Director of the wealth management division of Challenger, and the CEO of Boss Software International. Jim holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tasmania, a Post Graduate Degree in Finance and Investments, and an MBA from the Melbourne Business School. Jim is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Graduate of their Company Directors program.

Jane Tongs (Non-executive Director)

Jane was appointed as a Non-executive director in 2010. She is chairman of Netwealth Holdings Limited and Lend Lease Australian Prime Property Fund Investors Committee and is a Director of Australian Energy Market Operator Limited, Cromwell Property Group and Catholic Church Insurances. Previously, Jane was a Financial Services and Litigation Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Jane holds an Executive MBA from the Melbourne Business School, a Business degree from RMIT and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Jane is also a member of the Institute of Company Directors.

Dan Mangelsdorf (Non-executive Director)

Dan was appointed as a Non-executive director in 2017. He is currently Chairman of the Warakirri Cropping Trusts and is a board member of GrainCorp Limited. Dan holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (Hons) from the University of New England and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Dan owns and operates farming interests in New South Wales, and is an experienced company director with agricultural, supply chain, international trade and risk management expertise.

Adrian Goonan, CEO Warakirri Cropping & Diversified Agriculture Funds Management

Adrian joined Warakirri in August 2008 as Head of Agribusiness. Adrian holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Project Management from RMIT and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Adrian’s background and blend of professional experience is across three main areas; Project Management, Funds Management and Agriculture (particularly agricultural investments). Adrian commenced his current role in September 2011.

Andrew Graham, Chief Operating Officer

Andrew joined Warakirri in October 2001. He was formerly Assistant Financial Controller with London-based Prudential-Bache International Bank Limited. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Ben James, CEO Aurora Dairies

BenJ
Ben joined Warakirri in May 2012 in the role of Operations Manager. He studied a Bachelor of Applied Science Agriculture at University of Adelaide. Ben has over 20 years’ practical experience within the agriculture industry and more specifically experience in large scale dairy and mixed farming enterprises. Ben commenced his current role in December 2012.

Bernadette Halton, Operations Manager

Bernadette joined Warakirri in May 2011 having most recently worked as a Business Analyst with ANZ and J.P. Morgan. She previously held team leader roles with ANZ Custodian Services and State Street. Bernadette holds a Bachelor of Business from RMIT and is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Brian Hender, Head of Investment Research & Systems

BrianH
Brian joined Warakirri in August 2005. Previously he had been working with JANA Investment Advisers. Brian started with JANA in December 1994, initially working on the implementation of JANA’s performance reporting system. Along with his systems responsibility Brian was actively involved in manager research particularly Australian equities and had been directly involved with a number of JANA’s larger funds during this time. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science from Monash University.

Conor Hayes, Head of Investor Relations

Conor moved into his current role in 2012 after joining Warakirri in September 2008 as Head of Compliance & Company Secretary. Prior to joining Warakirri Conor gained the majority of his industry experience working for Bank of Ireland Asset Management (BIAM) over a period of 9 years in both Ireland and Australia in roles relating to investor services and compliance. Conor holds a Master of Science in Investment and Treasury and a Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours), both from Dublin City University. In addition, Conor is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ghazal Taghdir, Compliance and Risk Manager

Ghazal joined Warakirri in January 2014 as Compliance & Risk Manager. Prior to joining Warakirri, Ghazal gained the majority of her industry experience working for Bank of Cyprus Australia in the capacity of Internal Audit and at Orchard Funds Management where she was the Risk Management & Compliance Officer. In her most recent role, she gained significant experience in agricultural investment funds, working as the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer for Seven Fields Pty Ltd. Ghazal holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and E-Commerce and is part way through completing her Master of Laws (JD) at Monash University.

Kristin Lamb, Human Resource Manager

Kristin joined Warakirri in 2014 as the HR Manager. Previously, Kristin has gained her experience in Cape Town, South Africa where she worked for a Training and Outsourcing company and then for an E-Commerce organisation. She holds a degree in Psychology and Organisational Psychology and an Honours Degree in Organisational Psychology.

Luke Carey, Investment Manager, Agribusiness

Luke joined Warakirri in November 2015 in the role Investment Manager, Agribusiness. Prior to joining Warakirri, Luke was employed by Australian Unity Investments for 6 years as the Investment Operations Manager. Previous roles were in external audit, as an Audit Manager in Melbourne, Perth and New York. Luke is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University. Luke has gained practical agricultural experience from his family interests in sheep, potatoes and broadacre cropping in the Ballarat and Western District regions

Michael Furness, Chief Financial Officer

MichaelF
Michael joined Warakirri in January 2006. He emigrated from the UK in 2002 and was an external audit manager with RSM Bird Cameron before joining Warakirri. Michael qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK, whilst working as an external auditor with haysmacintyre in London. Michael is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree from Leeds University.

Will Heath, CEO Daybreak Cropping

WillH
Will joined Warakirri in November 2013 in the role of Investment Manager, Agribusiness. Previously he had been working with Rio Tinto for 10 years in commodities sales & marketing. Will has a Bachelor of Business Management and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland and is a CFA Charterholder.
Will comes from a family farming background and currently lives in Goondiwindi, Queensland. Will has been a part of the Daybreak team since inception and commenced as CEO in August 2016.

Dilan Ashton, Senior Investor Relations Associate

Dilan has over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, joining Warakirri in July 2018 as a Senior Investor Relations Associate. Prior to this, Dilan spent 10 years at JBWere, where she gained a diversified range of skills and experience across a number of roles, most recently as a Senior Analyst within Private Wealth Management.
Dilan holds a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Commerce and Diploma in applied finance.

Jonathon joined Warakirri as an Operations Associate in May 2016. Jonathon holds a Graduate Diploma of Banking and Finance from Swinburne University as well as a Bachelor of Psychology and Management/Marketing from Monash University. Jonathon moved to his current role of Investor Relations Associate in November 2018.

Tim Lang, Investment Specialist

Tim joined Warakirri in June 2012. Tim has a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Finance from Stetson University (USA).
Tim began his career at Warakirri in the Operations Department before transferring into Investor Relations. Tim has performed numerous roles in investor relations and business development; currently as an Investment Specialist.

Stuart Devlin, Head of Family Office and IFA’s

StuartD
Stuart join Warakirri in the role of Head of Family Office and IFA’s in September 2018, with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Warakirri, Stuart’s previous roles included Head of Family Office and IFA’s for Franklin Templeton, Head of Wholesale Distribution for ING and Region Distribution Manager for AXA. Stuart has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from RMIT and Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Southern Queensland.
Stuart is also a committee member of a charity fund raising group “The Grassroots Club”, which mainly supports the Mirabel Foundation.
