Innovative alternative investment management

Warakirri Charitable Australian Equities Trusts

Warakirri manages two Charitable Australian Equities Trusts – the Warakirri Charitable Australian Equities Trust ("WCAET")* and the Warakirri Charitable Select Equities Trust ("WCSET").  Both trusts have been established to offer tax-exempt organisations access to high quality investment managers specialising in Australian equities, via a vehicle managed specifically to their tax-exempt status.  The Investment Committee selects investments by assessing the inherent value of a broad universe of securities, including consideration of both macro and micro economic forces. The trusts primarily focus on companies whose sharemarket capitalisation does not adequately reflect their assessed inherent value.

Investment Objective

To outperform an after-tax benchmark based on the S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index net of fees and grossed up for franking credits, whilst acknowledging that the portfolio will be structured sufficiently differently to the benchmark Index that outperformance is not expected every year.

Investment Philosophy

The Investment Committee invests in companies that it considers to have positive long-term environmental, social and governance practices. Further, the trusts employ a negative screen which excludes investment in companies that have significant businesses in the following industries:

  • Provision of gaming products and/or service;
  • Manufacture of tobacco products;
  • Manufacture of alcoholic beverages; and
  • Manufacture of products for military applications.

*Please note that the WCAET is currently closed to new investors.
